Why Resolutions Suck

How are those resolutions going?

It’s only a few days into this shiny brand new year & I am willing to bet you’re already struggling with the resolutions, goals & promises you made to yourself.. amiright?

Stop. Beating. Yourself. Up.
Cuz resolutions suck.
And here’s why…

  • You don’t actually believe you’re gonna stick with them.

  • You’ve tried year after year and know how hard they are.

  • You’ve disappointed yourself over & over.

  • And now you feel obligated to try again, knowing full well you have about a 4.5% chance of success.. ouch..

Maybe that’s just me 🤷‍♀️, or maybe you can relate 🙋‍♀️.
Either you’ll feel understood, or you’ll be able to better understand someone who’s struggling.

Weeellll, there must be a better way right? Something easier. Less painful.
You’re right! There is. Likely several better ways to start your new year off on a more positive note, with less pressure and more enthusiasm.

Here are a few I’m using this year:

  1. Celebrate -  list all the things you learned & accomplished last year; big, small or ordinary — anything that comes to mind that you’re proud of or didn’t pause to celebrate. Now’s your chance!

  2. Accept  - what compliments, comments or appreciation did you receive last year — write that down too. Anything that made you feel good. It’s time to accept them. Own them. Believe them. You deserved them!

  3. Plan - if you were to enjoy yourself even more than you did last year, what would you: do more of? — do less of? — do differently?

See?! Not a single sucky thing on that list. It’s all real-good feel-good vibes that will have you looking forward to this new adventure instead of dreading the day you finally give up on your resolutions… (again).

Here’s some great advice I recently heard:
Stop searching for happiness & start following your joy.
Joy is not a goal. It is a guide.
Pay attention when you experience it.

Care to share what your plans are for this year? I’d love to hear from you!

And dear friend, thank you for being here. I appreciate you so much. You inspire me!
In case nobody mentioned it yet today, I want you to know how incredibly amazing you are — so strong, beautiful & capable. You matter. You are seen. You are loved. 💗
